Native American Beadwork, Native American Jewelry, Silver, Gold, Advertising Signs, Montana Antiques, Navajo Indian Rugs, Taxidermy Mounts, Chandelier and Lighting, Antique Furniture, Firearms.
The piece is a Shawnee Native American Indian tribe Hammer Poll Tomahawk with wood handle and brass tomahawk head. The weapon shows a carved wood handle with brass tacks decorating the upper carved area near the head. One side shows an arrow figure and the other a chevron figure both in brass tacks. The tomahawk head is an unusual and scarcely seen solid brass hammer poll. The brass heads were highly desired by some tribes for their color even though they didn’t hold an edge as well as the iron heads. The piece has a wonderful hand etched design done by the Shawnee people. The head is slightly lose from the shaft as the shaft head has slight shrunk over the years. The piece is from the Earl Family private collection in Troy, MI. Believed to be from the Shawnee people in the Northern now Ohio area. The pipe is an early important piece from the early to mid 1800’s (1800-1850). Measures 18.25”L overall with a 7.5”x2 3/8”x1 5/8”. Original tag still present.
