Shasta,CA - Vista Over Bridge Photograph :
A view of a woman standing on a bridge crossing a river in a wooded area with several buildings in the background on the far side of the river. Cabinet card measures 6 1/2 x 4 3/4" with a white border and no matte. Medium contrast and good focus noted. Sign for "Shasta View Cottage" noted on main building near center top of image. One tear at lower left repaired by tape on the reverse and one tear in the upper right corner, otherwise fine. "Simpson Ave Bridge" handwritten along the right edge and "Simpson Ave. Bridge, sign says: Shasta View Cottage" hand printed on the reverse. No photographer identified. The woman walking across the bridge looks very neat, wearing a skirt, blouse, tie, and hat. There appear to be railroad tracks running along the far side of the river. Shasta was first called Reading Springs, then Shasta City. A cross-road and trading center for the Sacramento River and Shasta County area, it was also the beginning of the road for mule trains to Trinity County, Siskiyou County, and Oregon. A post office was established in 1851, public schools in 1853, and it was the county seat from 1853-1888. (Ref: CA Gold Camps, Gudde)00..0
