Sharps percussion sporting rifle, .44 caliber, 26” heavy round barrel, iron mountings, doubleset triggers, tang sight, serial #1127, refer Flayderman 5F-011, where it is stated only about 110 were manufactured were made with round barrels, about 600 total. The rifle remains in good to very good original condition showing a deep brown patina finish, some scattered light to moderate pitting, and some good brown mixed in. The rifle shows a period high-rise rear sight in dovetail which is basically a block of steel with a slot and a hand-made sheet steel and fine post front sight which works well with the rear sight. These were frontier gunsmith type editions and are both of the period. The rifle shows a select grain walnut stock and good condition with some slight repairs to the forend, small amounts of fill which is expertly done and almost imperceptible. The action is good, the bore slightly rough. These percussion Sharps rifles were used in the Civil War and headed west early before the big-bore cartridge rifles. Est: $2,500 - $4,000
