Sharps patent by Tipping & Lawden, .22 caliber, Type 1, pepperbox derringer. Blue and silver finish. Floral pattern, hard rubber grips, English-style cased with agent’s label in lid. Serial number “4003”. The derringer remains in original, near-fine condition with 75 – 85% original blue on barrel, drifting on the edges, with light erosion and normal aging just starting. The frame shows 90 – 95% original silver, with some small areas of loss, slight scratches, and beginning lifting. The markings are sharp, the edges are crisp, the grips are near-fine with just slight handling and edge wear. The action is tight and mechanism working. The original casing shows a blue felt lining, in partition style, with minor scuffs, indentations, just normal beginning age. Original cleaning-rod and oiler are included, along with correct compartment covers. The interior of the lid shows an original label, for “Wm & J Rigby Gunmakers 24 Suffolk St. Dublin.” The label shows staining, losses to the edges, but at least good overall. The exterior of the case is veneered pearl walnut, and in good to very good condition with slight cracks, minor warping, normal aging, but at least very good overall. A good set with a desirable label. Tom Seymour Collection. Est.: $2,000 - $4,000.
