Sharps model 1874 single-shot sporting rifle, .44-77 caliber (bottlenecked), 30” octagon barrel, double-set triggers, open sights, oil finished stock, weighing 10.25lbs, list price $42, invoiced December 14th, 1876 toSharps dealer “W. E. Spencer & Co”, Chicago, IL, serial #158385. With Sharps letter signed by R. L. Moore, researcher, confirming all features. Along with Daguerreotype of man in western dress holding what is believed to bethis Sharps rifle. Another western dress man is holding an 1873 Winchester in the same picture. Along with Mill’s cartridge belt with “Old Reliable” brass buckle. A hand-written letter dated September 7th, 1877 from W. E. Spencer & Co, to Sharps Rifle Co, Bridgeport Connecticut, signed W. E. Spencer, concerning business affairs is included. The rifle remains in original near fine condition with 92-96% original blue onbarrel, just starting to age and tone slightly. Super crisp edges, sharp markings, original sights. The action shows 30-60% case hardening drifting to silvery grey with some light colors mixed in and some rainbow
