Sharps New Model 1863 carbine, arsenal converted to .50-70 caliber, blue and case hardened finish, serial #72351. Stock shows original marking “G. Troop 1st Cav #6” on top rear of comb. The gun remains in originalgood to very good showing 30-50% original blue on barrel evenly drifting to patina with some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. The frame show 30-50% original case hardening going to patina with some casehardening in protected areas. The stocks are good to very good with some dings, mars, scratches, faint trace of cartouche on center left buttstock and even carry and wear with some small losses consistent with carry anduse. The 1st Cavalry served from Arizona to Oregon and engaged in many actions including the Modoc wars, scouting and action throughout Arizona, and into Washington Territory and points in between. The markings are sharp, the action is good. All sights and small parts are retained. Bore is near excellent. A good sharps with great western markings that are further researchable, possibly even to the trooper who carried it.
