Following the Civil War the U.S. Government decided to convert many percussion military arms to metallic cartridge. This rifle is chambered for the 50-70 round with the original 6 groove barrel. The top of the barrel is marked with the three line address ahead of the rear sight and "NEW MODEL 1863" behind the sight. The left side at the breech is marked "EAW" with a "F" ahead of that. Lawrence patent rear sight and block front sight with blade. The lock is marked with the Sharps and Lawrence patent dates, and various parts are marked with a single letter inspection mark. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with the "DFC" ribbon cartouche on the left side.

Condition: Very good as refinished with half of the dull blue finish remaining on the barrel mixed with a smooth brown patina. The remaining parts have a smooth dark mottled patina with case colors in the protect areas, strongest on the left side of the receiver, The wood has had a coat of varnish applied and remains very fine with a crisp cartouche, a few minor dents and handling marks. The action is very good.
