Civil War Sharps ''New Model 1859'' Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine, with Pellet Priming System, #59774, .52 cal., 22'' round barrel, with integral block-blade front and Lawrence patent sliding-leaf rear sights marked ''Sharps Rifle/Manufg. Co./Hartford, Conn.'' behind single spring-retained barrel band, and ''New Model 1859'' at breech; ''Straight Breech'' receiver is marked ''C. Sharps Pat./Sept. 12th, 1848'' and fitted with a sling bar and ring on left side, and marked ''C. Sharps' Pat./Oct. 16th, 1852'' and ''R.S. Lawrence Pat./April 12th, 1859'' on right; serpentine operating lever opens the dropping-block action for loading prepared cartridges, and cleaning; steel patchbox and carbine-style buttplate; oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd ca. 1859-66. Condition is very good, the barrel with approx. 20% original blue mixing with brown patina and scattered discoloration, the other parts being mostly smooth gunmetal gray with scattered discoloration. Stocks are sound with marks from military use and age. Edges and markings are crisp; action functions smoothly; 6-groove bore is clean with occasional spotting and defined rifling.
