Sharps New Model 1859 .52 caliber rifle, with double set triggers, serial #57554 in serial number range identified to Berdan Sharpshooters. The rifle remains in original good to very good condition showing a Germansilver plaque inlaid into left side of stock. Soldier inscribed with fancy initials “GDV”. (Note: The middle initial is very stylized and may actually be a different letter). The barrel shows approx. 30-50% blue drifting toa brown patina with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting. The frame, lockplate, patchbox, lever, and small parts show traces of case hardening drifting to patina, approx. 10-20%. The markings onbarrel and lock are very good. The barrel shows an “OWA” inspection. We were unable to find any cartouches on the wood, however our consignor’s note mentions a “DST” cartouche but we did not see it. The stock is good tovery good overall with normal wear. The bore is very good plus, a couple of eroded areas, but mostly bright. A period unmarked leather sling is included and Dr. Fenn’s notes also make reference to ‘Chris Schneider, Berdan
