Sharps Model 1874 military rifle, .44-77 caliber, 30” round barrel, S/N 155403, blued and case hardened finish, wood stocks with iron patchbox in butt stock, three barrel bands, flip-up front Beeches sight; adjustable flip-up peep tang sight. This rifle is in overall very good to fine condition displaying the majority of its original blue on the barrel and considerable silver toning on the receiver; crisp action, sharp markings, very good to fine bore, very good + wood stocks. Accompanied by an important factory letter and additional period documents. The 1985-dated letter from the late Dr. R.L. Moore, indicates this military rifle was invoiced on October 15, 1875 to P.H. McQuinn of Wilkes Barre, PA., confirming caliber and barrel length. Also included are original letters to the Sharps Rifle Company from a 1st Lieut. P. H. Mc Guire, one on Vulcan Iron Works letter head and dated Oct. 4, 1875, indicating “we have organized a independent rifle Company known as the Sarsfield Guards and we are thinking to adopt your metallic cartridge rifle providing we can agree on the price of them .
