Sharps Model 1874 Rifle with Heavy Barrel
Fitted with an original, replacement heavy barrel marked "Old Reliable" is in an octagon box and followed by "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT. CONN." ahead of the rear sight, "CAL. 45" at the breech and "2 7/8" on the left flat at the breech. The left side of the receiver is marked "SHARPS RIFLE CO (the rest absent over "PAT APR" (the remainder absent), the lock has no markings and the serial number is marked on top of the receiver behind the loading port. The bottom of the barrel is marked "10" which is for the weight of the barrel, 10 pounds. The total weight of the rifle is 13 pounds. The weight of the barrel and the double set triggers are special features mounted on this rifle. The barrel is fitted with a brass blade front sight and a folding leaf rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Mounted with a smooth replacement Schnabel forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent iron buttplate.

Condition: Very good as assembled. The barrel has a smooth mottled gray patina. A portion of the lower flat under the forearm has been heavily polished in order to remove markings. The receiver and lock have been cleaned and are a silver gray. The replacement forearm is ill-fitting to the frame and the front screw is marred and doesn't fit properly. The buttplate is ill-fitting at the toe. The wood is very good otherwise with a small chip at the lock above the triggers, a small gouge behind the lock and overall a few minor dings and dents. The barrel markings are clear. The action is excellent.
