Sharps Model 1874 No. 1 long range rifle, serial #156529 in 44 caliber with 34” barrel with factory letter stating invoiced at factory April 12th 1876 to firm of John P. Lovell & Sons, Boston Mass. who were sporting goods and arms dealers. The factory order book indicates that this rifle was priced at $120. Less dealer discount. Internal order memo #1692 states this rifle was 44 cal with 34” barrel and had oil finished stocks with2-3/4” bend without inscription plate. The letter further states that Lovell most likely bought the rifle as a custom order for a member of a prestigious shooting club which flourished in Boston at this time. The rifle remains in near fine original condition showing 90-95% original blue on barrel with some beginning age, slight toning and some just starting minimal erosion. The frame and lock plate show 75-85% colorful casehardening which is toning slightly. The stocks are fine to near excellent with crisp checkering, a few minor bumps and scratches. The bore is bright and near fine. An original rear sight is retained which is
