rifle with heavy 30" octagon barrel, lettered and shipped to JG Dow Bozeman, Montana Territory in 1878. Rifle remains in very good condition starting with the barrel which shows blue drifting and toning a pleasing brown, small area of pinprick pitting at tip of muzzle forward of the front sight. The top of barrel reads Old Reliable, Sharps Rifle C., Bridgeport, C with 40 Calibre 2 5/8 at the breech end. All markings are crisp and sharp. Frame, lever and hammer retain a bluegray to silver finish with case hardening evident in various areas. Left side of frame is marked Sharps Rifle Co. Pat April and is sharp with the exception of date which has worn smooth. Serial number is crisp on top of frame and matches theserial number underneath fore stock. Original stocks show expected dings and mars with no evidence of sanding , fore stock with an old period glue repaired crack to left side. Original rear leaf sight is present with dovetailed frontsteel sight. Action and double set triggers function smoothly and barrel shows a good bore. A well cared for Sharps shipped to a desirable location in western history. No FFL required.
