Sharps Model 1863 Percussion Musket, .52 caliber, Serial #C34900. The musket is in fine overall condition with a 30” barrel with a square post front and military style tangent rear sights. The barrel retains themajority of its thinning blue finish with wear at the muzzle. The receiver has gone to a silvery toned case hardening with several screw heads retaining a bright niter blue finish. The barrel is marked, “M.N.M.”forwards the front ring and the forearm is marked “A.W.M.” The smooth wood stock is in very good condition with mars, compressions and a 2 ½” lateral crack at the butt plate. The butt stock has two cartouches at thetang, a steel patch box, sling swivels and ends with a smooth, steel crescent butt plate. The bore is good, the action crisp and markings are sharp. Per the consignor’s notes, Serial #34901 went to Company H of the 4th Vt. Volunteer Infantry. This is a wonderful example of a late Civil War era Sharps rifle manufactured in 1865. From the estate of Larry Gaertner. Est.: $1,750-$3,500. (Antique)
