Sharps Model 1853 “John Brown” carbine in prime serial number range, S/N 15351. Among the most historic of Civil War carbines these “John Brown” Sharps were smuggled into Kansas in boxes marked “Breechers Bibles”. At least 900 carbines were purchased by immigrant aid societies and supplied to the anti-slavery forces and John Brown. This number is close to a captured arm and is in the number range indicating probable use byforces of John Brown and his supporters who captured Harpers Ferry Arsenal and were hung for their insurgency against the Federal government. The saddle ring bar has been removed and the fore end and band are laterperiod replacements. The markings are good and the metal shows some light to moderate pitting. The stocks have been cleaned. The action is tight and the bore is near fine. A desirable John Brown Sharps with this serialnumber. Fair to good condition overall. (Antique) Est.: $4000-$8000
