Sharps Model 1851 sporting rifle in .36 caliber percussion showing 28” round barrel, serial number 1975 with brass mountings, refer Flayderman 5F – 003.5. 1 of only approximately 400 produced. The rifle remains in original good condition showing a gray to Brown patina finish scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The markings on the barrel are visible and patent markings on the tang also visible. The wood has been lightly refinished and there is a replacement of wood around lock area on right side which is a good restoration. The action is good and the bore is bright to near excellent. A two leaf folding rear sight is retained with graduations to 500 yards. A favorite of pioneers headed west and Mormon settlers in Utah. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
