Sharps Business Rifle, .45-70 caliber, 28” round barrel of standard weight, serial #160527, shipped to William R. Burkhard, St. Paul, MN, on April 11, 1877 with factory letter confirming features and shipment. Thebarrel retains 60-70% original blue drifting at the edges and toning nicely to patina with some light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The lockplate, lever, frame, show 40-60% case hardening, also going to patinawith some good areas of visible color toning and aging nicely. The stocks are good to very good with 60-70% original varnish, a couple of dings, mars, scratches, normal use. A small repair where the stock meets the action on the top edge that is almost unnoticeable and minor. The buttplate shows toning case hardening. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers, the bore is bright and near excellent. A well cared for Sharps. Burkhardwas a well known dealer and this rifle could have continued West into the Dakotas and Montana following the buffalo herds. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
