Early Pre-Civil War single shot straight breech saddle ring percussion carbine with 22" round barrel. Relic condition, appears to have been in the elements for some time. Plain straight grip walnut stock, ladder rear sight, all steel hardware including patchbox. The following markings are very feint, barrel marking are partially unreadable. Top of barrel marked "Sharps Rifle Manufg Co. Hartford, Conn." and near the receiver "New Model 1859". Left side of receiver marked "C..Sharps Pat. Sept 19th 1848". Right side of receiver marked "R.S Lawrence Pat April 12th 1859" and "C. Sharps Pat Oct 5th 1852" and the serial number is visible on the tang. Metal surfaces are a dark brown patina with full coverage pitting, hammer does not cock, missing the patchbox lid, lever lock, saddle ring, barrel band spring, forearm screw and a left receiver screw. breech block drops, the saddle ring bar screw is a replacement, slivers of wood missing out of the top right forearm, a 5 12" chunk of the rear lower buttstock is missing, partially repaired with nails. Period "JWH" is carved in the left buttstock. This carbine was more than likely picked up from some battlefield after the Civil War Ended.NRA Condition-Poor/Relic. Antique Firearm.
