Shang period (1766 BCE -1122 BCE) set of 3 jade receptacles for calligraphy. Each receptacle was used to dilute the ink, or wash the brushes. The lid has 5 vertical rows of archaic writing. Intricate decorations of cloud design and tao tieh masks are present. Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of the collectors textbook: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912 AD".
