This Shakyamuni Buddha was crafted of dark patinated metal and dates back to the 16th century Thailand. Buddha sits in padmâsana on a double lotus throne with surrounding Tibetan inscription. His right hand shows the bhûmisparsa Mudra, the gesture to get in touch with the earth. With this gesture, Buddha calls the earth as a witness for the truth of his words. His long left arm lies on his lap with open palm – the meditative posture of dhyâna-mudra. Buddha is wearing the monk's robe kasaya that leaves the right shoulder bare and forms fine folds. Long earlobes and the deep neck wrinkles as well as the the peaceful expression with half-closed eyelids indicate Buddha Shakyamuni’s enlightened state. The head of the enlightened shows small curls and an ushnisha with high ketumala. The figure is decorated with gold and the pedestal is ornament with red lacquer.

The Buddha figure is in good condition with slight signs of age and wear. Loss of lacquer, especially on the figure, and small notches at the base and on the ketumala are recognizable. The height measures 25.5 cm, the width 15.5 cm and the depth 8.5 cm. (lvp)
