<td width="100%">
Antique Shaker small oval lapfinger box in red paint, only 4-1/2 inches wide, 19th C. Box found full of handmade black and brown cloth buttons that may be from Shaker garments. Small oval box size much desired by Shaker collectors. Opposing fingers as made in Harvard, Mass. Shaker community. This scarlet red color is not the usual iron stain but is paint, often called "lipstick red". Original red paint remains underneath later-but-old protective shellac topcoat, the difference between the two layers made visible by shine variation. Box lid and bottom both painted red. Wee bit of ivory paint tiny spatter outside, inside painted ivory color. Pinhole in box bottom, but no breaks or repairs make for overall very nice condition.
