Shaker firkins, or buckets (2). These were constructed by the Shakers, The United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, commonly known as the Shakers, was a Protestant sect founded in England in 1747. The French Camisards and the Quakers, two Protestant denominations, both contributed to the formation of Shaker beliefs. Because of their commitment to celibacy, it was no surprise that they faded from existence, with the last two surviving members reported living in Maine in 2017.
These are made of wood and measure11"x 11" and8"x15", They are very nice condition, save for some loose staves, considering their age, but their water carrying days are over. Please see photos for more details. Maine Gary Bracken Collection
