Memories of the Pioneer Days, Indian Depredations and the Northwest Cattle Trail. Written by J. M. Franks, Gatesville, Texas, 1924. In telling of Hickok's killing of Phil Coe, Frank writes: "This is the way I was told the trouble came up: the men were with a big crowd in a saloon and all were drinking. Bud Cole [sic] had a pistol on and a dog was passing by when Cole jerked out his pistol and shot the dog. Wild Bill, it seemed, was not in the house at the time the pistol was fired, but ran in when he heard the report. I was told by a man who said he was standing near enough to Cole to have laid his hand on his shoulder, and he said he always believed Bud Cole shot Wild Bill in the breast, for he was a good shot, but it was said wild Bill wore a steel jacket or breast plate." This story has been said to be false. Soft cover, used condition (9" x 6") 134 pp.
