Choice T(homas).E. Bangs (saloon) token from Seven Troughs. Found there in 1975 by our collector. XF to AU wear, a beauty. Seven Troughs was a classic post-1900 mining camp in the remote northern Nevada desert mountains. Rich gold ores were developed and mined for several years. A massive flood destroyed the town, which was nearly impossible to rebuild. Bangs was one of the successful businesses that remained after the flood. Please see Stan Paher's Nevada Ghost Town book for photos of Seven Troughs (p119) and read Shamburger's book on it for more. Some of these towns were so remote that they missed the 1910 Census canvas. Bangs was born in April, 1857 in Canada, and came to the USA in 1878. He appears to have tramped around the West as a miner, landing in Rye Patch by 1900. A decade later, he was running a saloon in Mazuma (too bad he didnt put out a token there!), then on to Seven Troughs. He is listed in the 1912 Polk as a saloonkeeper there. By 1920, he had moved to Los Angeles, where at age 61, he listed his occupation as carpenter. - HKA#66345
