Measures 4 5/8" tall, rectangular. 2oz. According to Fred Holabird’s forthcoming book, Nevada History through Glass—Vol2, Seven Troughs, a mining camp, was so named for the seven troughs that Frank Ward built in 1894 to preserve water for his sheep. The 1912 flood was the beginning of the fall of Seven Troughs. Fred Preston owned the Preston Hotel, Owl Saloon, and Owl Pharmacy. The Owl Pharmacy in Seven Troughs bears no direct connection to the famous Owl Drug Co. found throughout the United States. The Owl Pharmacy is listed in the Polk 1912 and 1914 Nevada Directories. The embossed Owl Pharmacy drug bottle from Seven Troughs is among the most prized of the western drugstore bottles. It has a large embossed owl on the front and is only found in the clear glass Blue Ribbon graduated oval, a product of the 1910-1915 period" [Ref: Nevada History Through Glass, Vol. II, Fred Holabird, 2012]. 1905 gold was discovered in Seven Troughs Canyon and by 1907 miners were streaming in from the Tonopah/Goldfield area and beyond. Gold was assayed at $100,000 a ton, and in 1911 the Kindergarten Mill, a 50-ton cyanide processing plant, was built at the east end of the town. By the end of 1907 the town could boast a post office, more than one saloon, stores, and a population of about 350. Between 1908 and 1921 the town produced almost 2 million dollars in gold before the ore ran dry about 1918. Seven Troughs was abandoned by the 1920s [Ref: silverstateghosttowns.com/seventroughs.html]. - Jacobitz Collection -59552
