Seven Troughs,NV - Pershing County - c1906 - Seven Troughs Publication and Fairview Mine Gold Specim
Lot of 2 items. 1) Fairview Mine gold specimen: native gold in quartz specimen, 1 x 1.25", cut on one surface. Shamberger reported that the Fairview had some very rich ore in the upper levels, from which this specimen may have come. Run by the Seven Troughs Mining Co., one of the top producers in the district, with an output of nearly $4 million in gold. This company, along with its successor, produced about 1/2 of the gold in Seven Troughs. Weighs about 1-2 ounces. Native gold specimens from NV mines are very rare. (Ref: Shamberger, Carlson). 2) Historic Mining Camps of NV, #3, Seven Troughs, by Shamberger, Hugh A. Soft cover, 57 pages, indexed, with many photographs, illustrations, and maps (includes a pull-out map). Three inch red stain on back cover, otherwise very fine. Sponsored by USGS and NV Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources, 1972. The book covers the early history, development, and water supply of the Seven Troughs Mining District. The town itself was begun in 1906, and received its name from a series of seven water troughs below some springs by a cattleman. It was about two blocks from the Kindergarten Mine, on property belonging to the Seven Troughs Gold Mine Company. The Seven Troughs Kindergarten Mill originally operated a 10 stamp mill beginning in 1908, which was increased to 15 stamps in 1911.
