Set of Eight 1962 Seattle World's Fair Medals Struck in .999 Silver. The 1962 Seattle World's Fair celebrated improvements that would appear in the 21st Century as new technology to be incorporated into everyday life. This theme included exhibits such as "The Space Needle," "The Monorail," "The World of Science," and "The World of Century 21." Numismatists in attendance would certainly have marveled at "The $1,000,000 Display," a display containing 1,000,000 Silver Dollars that drew large crowds. In addition to the five exhibits mentioned above, three more, including "The World of Art," "The World of Commerce and Industry," and "The World of Entertainment," were also centerpieces of the fair.

A series of medals were produced by The Metal Arts Company, Rochester, New York. One for each of the eight main displays. These medals were struck of silver and bronze for public distribution.

In addition to these private issues, the United States Mint produced its own 33.5mm medal, for the Century 21 Exposition. Its contemporary design made it stand out from other medals of U.S. Mint issue. Medal designer and sculptor, George Tsutakawa, commented on his design: "The spirit of Century 21 is the adventure of man reaching out into space unknown away from his domicile of centuries past. The obverse design depicts the home of the Century 21 Exposition in Seattle, Washington, where great minds assemble to show the people of the world their scientific achievements and future plans. The reverse design is an image of the little known outer space, with all its vastness, richness and complexity of rhythm and motion of the stars and the moons and their planets, which man hopes to penetrate by perfection of science and technology." All near mint. Ex. Henry E.
