Set of 4 Mid-Century Japanese Risque Ceramic Mugs
These earthenware items are designed in the style of Dorothy Kindell's novelty barware. Each mug features a barrel-form body with molded wave-patterned bands encircling the upper rim and lower base. The handles are sculpted as stylized female figures in various poses, depicting a striptease sequence. The mugs are finished in a multi-colored glaze, with glossy tan barrel bodies, semi-matte flesh-toned upper figures, and bright glossy green lower portions. The bases of three mugs are stamped Japan in black sans-serif lettering. The fourth mug features a black mark consisting of a stylized floral or four-part knot symbol with the word JAPAN printed in an upward-curving arc. One mug retains a rectangular gold-foil retailer sticker with the handwritten numbers 5857 over 4.00.
