Included here is a unique set of three silver repousse hand or tabletop mirrors which are believed to be of either Ottoman or Egyptian origin from the early to mid twentieth century. Mirrors measure 8.75" high by 7" wide, 9" round, and 10.5" high by 8.75" wide, and all measure roughly 1.5" deep. Mirrors weigh 1 lbs 5.2 oz, 1 lbs 9.8 oz and 1 lbs 15.3 oz for a total weight of 4 lbs 14.3 oz, 78.3 total oz and 71.36 troy oz. Each features elaborate organic chased and embossed decoration, including a standing bird with outstretched wings in the center of the rear. Two hallmarks have been found. One hallmark appears to be Egyptian and contains an assay mark on left (indicating the city of assay and the silver standard), lotus flower in center (the national mark of Egypt which replaced the cat mark in 1946), and Arabic letter on right which appears to be the letter Th:aa' or Taa. However, another hallmark appears to be the Ottoman (or Turkish) Tughra mark of the sultan. Silver purity is uknown. Mirrors were photographed individually and the two photos showing the set (front and rear) were created from individual photos. Therefore, the relative sizes in these images are not accurate.
