1) Burdett Town Company, State of Kansas, cert. #9, issued for 21 shares at Topeka in 1886. Burdett is located in Pawnee County. Red pen cancelled with some browning. 2) The East Akron Town Company, State of Kansas, cert. #2, issued for 124 ½ shares at Topeka in 1887. Located in Cowley County. Red pen cancelled. Browning and small hole through president’s signature. 3) Topeka Land & Development Company, cert. #398, issued in 1887 for 50 shares to Brown, Riley & Co. The shares of the company were to be held in a trust and recorded in Shawnee County, Kansas. Uncancelled. Millions of acres of land in Kansas was given in federal government land grants to railroad companies to encourage railroad expansion.
