Service Model "Reaction Control System" Motor Cover (10x6") This yellow/black plastic unit is one of two parts that were the cover on one of the reaction control system motors of the Service Module. The notarized certificate of authenticity reads: "This Reaction Control Cover is one of two covers which belonged to James D. Gleaves, mechanical technician for North American. James Gleaves was in the Clean Room on Friday, January 27, 1967, and was the first employee to reach the Apollo 1 CM after the fatal fire started. He was hospitalized with burns to his hands and smoke inhalation and after his recovery he was presented with these two RCS covers (one of which is offered here) for his heroic efforts. I certify that this is one of the two covers which I received from James Gleaves.". The efforts of Gleaves and others at the pad are described in the NASA book SP-4205, "Chariots For Apollo" on pages 215 and 217. This unit has a "Marquardt Corp" oval label on the front and a Marquardt/NASA ID label on the bottom that reads: "Cover Half Assy; Part No. FS4946; Contract NAS9-150; Part of FS4945 Cover ASSY" with a NASA inspection hand stamp at the bottom. There is also half of a blue/white NASA "NAA S&ID" label at the left. An extremely important piece of memorabilia and one of the few original pieces of Apollo 1 memorabilia that is in the public domain. Estimate: $ 5,000 - 7500
