This model was manufactured circa 1887. The first models are identified by the "Z-bar" top latch which was changed in subsequent models. Features a top break design with a pinned round blade front sight, notch rear sight. Standard two line address/ patent dates on top of the solid fluted barrel rib, 5 round auto eject cylinder. Casehardened trigger and blue trigger guard. Checkered back strap safety and black hard rubber grips with S&W monograms. The inside of the left grip strap is stamped "R-N" in a rectangle as well as 471, indicating this revolver was factory re-nickeled (R-N) in April of 1971.

Condition: Very fine as factory refinished. 98% plus nickel finish remains showing only minor collector type handling marks. The hammer still retains strong traces of original case colors. The grips are excellent. The action is smooth. Never the less a scarce two digit Smith & Wesson.
