Eminent and prolific Russian composer (1891–1953) best known for his colorful, rhythmically vigorous works, including symphonies, operas, and much music for keyboard and chamber ensembles. ALS in Russian, signed “S. P.,” one side of a postcard bearing an image of the Eiffel Tower, 5.5 x 3.5, July 3, 1931. In a letter to Vladimir Bashkiroff, Prokofiev writes, translated in part: “Well how is your trip going across the capitols of different countries? It is quiet in Paris. Our country people sit quietly. Today [manager] came to see me from the Pacific Ocean. He is asking us to travel to Japan and Java. Mr. Kapablaca came to see me. We played with him three games…However the truth is he gave away first a horse. We expect you in Paris. I embrace you.” In very good condition, with some trivial corner creasing, the expected postmark cancellation stamps and two notations in another hand, the text a shade light, but completely legible, and four mild areas of surface loss to each corner on the reverse from previous mounting.
