Uncommon official participation diploma issued to gold medal-winning Russian basketball player Alexander Volkov at the Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics, 12 x 16.25, with colorful upper border featuring the Seoul Games logo with text below reading: “Volkov, Alexandre, U.S.S.R., For your participation in and contribution to the success of the Games of the XXIVth Olympiad, September 17–October 2, 1988, Seoul, Korea.” Includes its original brown presentation envelope. In fine condition, with slight wear to right side.

Power forward Alexander Volkov, also known as Sasha Volkov, was a member of the Soviet Union basketball team that won the gold medal at the 24th Olympiad, edging the United States in the semi-finals and then beating Yugoslavia in the championship round. Volkov, who averaged 10.6 ppg and 4.1 rpg during the 1988 tournament, is listed as one of FIBA’s Top 50 Greatest Players, and between 1989 and 1992, he played in the NBA as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
