Sen Revercomb's 1943 Senate Manual Signed by 60+
Senator Chapman Revercomb's 1943 Senate Manual Signed by 60+ Senators. (Washington: United States Government Printing Office, 1943), buckram binding with tabs marking each section, 6" x 9". Revercomb (R) was a politician and lawyer from the state of West Virginia who served two separate terms in the U.S. Senate (1943-49; 1956-59). This is his Senate Manual from his first year and he had many of his fellow lawmakers sign it on the inside front and back endpapers. Each senator has added his state and it reads like a "Who's Who" of national leaders during the World War II period. Just a few of the names you might recognize include: Alben Barkley (later vice president); A. B. Chandler (better known as "Happy"- resigned to become Commissioner of Baseball in 1945); Arthur H. Vandenberg; Robert M La Follette Jr.; Harold H. Burton (later Supreme Court Justice); Tom Connally; Carl Atwood (author of the Hatch Act); and Carl Hayden (42 consecutive years in the senate). Book is very good, signatures are very fine. An impressive collection.
