Seminole Indian Patch Cloth Doll c. 1900's
Offered for sale in this lot is an early 1900’s Seminole Native American Indian cloth doll collected from the Seminole Indians of Florida by Doctor Frank Baumgartner of Miami, Florida. Baumgartner helped finance the construction of the Tamiami Trail, also known as Highway 41, along with Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Barron Collier that stretched across the Florida Everglades. The piece was later sold to Ben Thompson in the 1970’s. Thompson always said the Baumgartner had noted the piece was originally owned by Thomas Edison when work was being conducted on the Trail, but he had no way of substantiating or verifying this. This is an original patch cloth doll showing overall good condition with nice patina measuring 9 inches in length.
