Awarded the 1952 Nobel Prize in Medicine in recognition for his discovery of streptomycin, the first antibiotic effective against tuberculosis. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 5.5, State of New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station letterhead, January 19, 1948. Letter to Harold Friedlander. In full: “I am in receipt of your letter of January 15. I did not appreciate at first that you only wanted me to look over an article on streptomycin prepared for your encyclopedia. I shall, of course, be delighted to do it. I was afraid that you expected me to do considerable work in the preparation of various articles. For that I do not have time.” In very good condition, with two vertical folds, one through a single letter of signature, staple holes to top left, scattered toning, and several pencil notations.
