<B>Secretary of State James G. Blaine Autograph Note Signed</B></I> “<I>James G. Blaine</B></I>”. One page, 5” x 8”, mounted on stiff paper stock, in ink. The note reads in full: “<I>I entered upon the office of Secretary of State on the 5th day of March 1881 - and retired therefrom on the 19th day of the ensuing December.</B></I>” James G. Blaine (1830-1893) was an experienced politician holding several offices and appointments including U.S. Representative, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator and a two-time Secretary of State. Blaine also made an unsuccessful run for president in 1884 losing to Grover Cleveland. The paper has lightly toned with age but the ink is still bright.
