Second model Schofield revolver, .45 caliber, blue finish, cartouche wood grips, serial #5519. The revolver remains in original good to very good condition showing 30-50% original blue, evenly drifting and toning, with most of the finish remaining on the frame. Areas where finish has drifted have gone to a natural patina with some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The grips are good to very good and show a full inspection on the left side in form of cartouche with 1876 date and also cartouches on right grip. Both cartouches are visible, just slightly light. The grips show just slight darkening and edge wear and are at least very good plus. The front sight has been changed to a blade-type during period of use. The replacement of the sight is neatly done and utilizes the original pinhole and is a period target type. The action is crisp, the interior near excellent with bright bore. The cylinder shows “7514” and “P” proof and “E” inspection, and also there is an “E” inspection on the interior of the frame, also an “E” and “P” inspection on the bottom of the barrel lug. The hammer and trigger guard show 40-60% case hardening, drifting to silver. A very crisp Schofield from the Custer era. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
