The blade of this dagger is attractive Damascus, 9 3/4" in length, with the Clemen & Jung (Solingen) makers mark accented in gold over "ECHT/ DAMAST" on the reverse next to the guard, "Major Konrad Ebsen" flanked by golden Luftwaffe eagles on the obverse, and "fur besondere Tapferkeit/ im Luftkampf." (for special bravery in aerial combat) and the signature "Hermann Goring" above the makers mark. Research shows Konrad Ebsen as a commander of a Dornier Do17Z light bomber and a participant in the Invasion of Greece, where records show that his bomber was shot down on 16 April 1941 by elements of the Royal Air Force 80 Squadron in the Larissa area, with the plane and crew reported lost. Alloy guard and pommel with oak leaf accents, eagle design on the guard, swastika on the pommel, wire wrapped orange celluloid grip, and silver portapee and acorn. With a metal sheath, pebbled with oak leaf patterns, and a gray and silver cord hanger with square buckles, oak leaf designs, and RZM marked belt clip.
