Seated Dollars 1858 PCGS PR63

Seated Dollars 1858 PCGS graded Proof 63. Meticulously struck. Light golden iridescent toning illuminates over deeply reflective fields, highlighting sharply contrasting frosted devices. On the obverse, the golden toning deepens at the rim and blends with vibrant blue-violet coloration. Eye appeal is stunning.

This 1858 silver dollar is a classic rarity, boasting the distinction of being the only proof-only year within the Liberty Seated dollar series. The actual quantity minted remains a mystery. A century ago, numismatic experts of the day reckoned the number struck to be 80 pieces. Today, however, scholars suggest that perhaps 300, or more, were coined, using two different reverse dies, the so-called reverses of 1857 and 1859. The offered coin utilizes the later reverse, characterized by a tiny pit in the field below D in UNITED and a lump near the top of the upright of the D in DOL., among other diagnostics.

Combined, PCGS and NGC report around a 100 examples, of which some may be resubmissions. PCGS has assigned the "63" designation to fewer than 20 coins, with ten grading higher, and they have yet to apply a grade above Mint State 65 to submitted examples of this date. Here we proudly present a truly outstanding example which is sure to create excitement among those who appreciate important rarities. Surely, it is destined to be a showpiece in a great collection of numismatic treasures. Estimate $7,000.00-$10,000.00
