Irish playwright (1880-1964) best known for such working-class dramas as The Plough and the Stars and Juno and the Paycock. ALS, one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, June 29, 1956. Letter to Lewis Funke, the drama editor at the New York Times. In part: “I’ve posted, by air mail, the article ‘Lord of a Century—Shaw,’ to you…This is my first effort at any work (bar letters) since I became ill, & you’re [sic] request (if it didn’t succeed in breeding a worthy article) at least jerked me out of a lethargic vacation. If the thing doesn’t satisfy you (it doesn’t quite please me), don’t hesitate to exile it far from the N. Y. Times.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
