Seán Shanahan is a representative of abstract geometric art. His works are exhibited throughout Europe and increasingly sought-after collectible items on the international art market
The present aquatint etching is a typical graphic work by the Irish artist Seán Shanahan and dates to 1997. The black and white composition appears slightly imbalanced and therefore immediately captivates the spectator’s eye.
The aquatint etching is signed with monogram and numbered in pencil upper center ‘S.S 12/20’. It is verso numbered in pencil ‘C. 13.801’. There is a tiny, very light stain beneath the lower right corner of the image. The sheet is verso mounted on two points on cardboard. The dimensions of the plate are 64.5 x 44 cm and the sheet measures 69.5 x 50.3 cm. The dimensions of the framed work are 73.5 x 54.5 cm.
Seán Shanahan (b. 1960)
The painter and graphic artist Seán Shanahan was born in Dublin and is a representative of monochrome abstract art. He received his artistic training in London and Madrid. His works have been exhibited since the early 1980s throughout Europe; his presentations at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in Dublin, the Fondazione Scarampi in Italy and the Sleeper Gallery in Edinburgh may be considered as his most important solo-exhibitions. Works by Shanahan are part of many private and public collections in Europe, such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in Dublin. The artist lives and works in Montevecchia since the late 1980s. (cbo)
