Scrimshaw Steer Horn Powder Flask Mid/Late 19th C.
For your consideration is this beautiful scrimshaw steer horn powder flask circa mid to late 19th century. The powder horn shows scrimshaw at the base of the horn reading, "A H Master" while the tip features a finely crafted beveled design with a carved raised ridge. The base cap is held into place by five brass nails, keeping the contents of the powder horn, in the horn. The steer horn shows a black color towards the tip which gradually fades into a lighter beige/tan color towards the base. Overall the powder flask shows good condition overall with some wear from its age and use over the years but no obvious signs of damage are present. The diameter of the tip measures 9/16", while the base measures a diameter of 2 1/16". The length of the powder flask is 6 7/8" and it weighs 55.3 grams.
