<B>Scrapbook of Original Historical Documents Pertaining to Providence, Rhode Island, 1690s-1820s</B></I>, 277 pages, remnants of brown-leather spine and corners, marbled boards, folio (12.5” x 18”). This is a ledger that was used as a scrapbook. It was compiled by a Providence family named Chaffee, and includes a handwritten (pencil) introductory description by Samuel Roscoe Chaffee, dated June 15, 1905, explaining in part, <I>“The old documents pasted in this book were found at my grandmother Nancy Chaffee’s death in 1874”.</B></I> The original handwritten and partly printed documents pertain primarily to land and property ownership, and include deeds, petitions, land records, inventories, bonds, bills, receipts, vouchers, statements, notices, leases, guardianship grants, military commissions, warrants, and school records.
