Scottish style military-marked flintlock pistol by Bissel of Birmingham, England, circa 1776 to 1783. Showing “R” marking on barrel. Type carried by “Black Watch” in the American revolutionary era. The pistol showsa ram’s horn butt, its original belt-hook, ball trigger, and simple ramrod. The pistol shows original “RHR” marking in block letters on barrel and Birmingham proofs on left side of breech. The stock shows typicalsingle-panel floral engraving on each side, with Bissel engraved and center portion of lock. The pistol measures 12-1/2” overall, with 7-3/4” barrel of approx. .58 caliber smoothbore. The pistol shows its originalhammer, frizzen, top jaw and screw, belt hook, and hammer. The stock shows an excellent old 19th century repair right behind the area of the lock where the stock cracked. The type repair done by an armoreror possibly the original maker. The pistol is in good condition with some minor pitting and erosion, light cleaning, but generally good and sharp overall but absolutely original to its period. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
