Scottish basket hilt broadsword circa about 19th century showing restoration and replacement of blade which is somewhat later than the hilt. The sword measures 40” overall with a 33” blade measures almost 1 ½” across widest as part of the ricasso and shows SH stamp along with small British Crown and Victoria era type stamps. The grip is nicely rewrapped and shows a replacement of the ferrule and the hilt shows pierced hearts and circles and is a good quality hand forged hilt from the 19th century or possibly late 18th . It is not uncommon that blades were changed as generations went on the blades were often updated on old hilts especially if sentimental in the family. Est.: $900- $1,800.
