Scottish basket hilt (Back sword) of cavalry style circa about 1780 in good original condition. The sword measures 40” overall with 33” blade measures almost 1-5/8” across at ricasso. The blade and hilt show light to moderate pitting and normal aging with a gray patina. The shark skin or ray skin grip is good but missing its wire wrap and the basket is lined with its period velvet. An attractive sword made at about the time ofthe American Revolution.
