School Integration during Reconstructio
School Integration during Reconstruction. Letter from L.L. Cross, New Orleans, Sept. 29, 1877, 1 p., to his sister, regarding Louisiana Agricultural and Mechanical College, in New Orleans, which had been integrated since opening in 1874. "...Our suit to keep the College in the city and at the same time a separate institution, has gone against us. I am afraid the removing of it to Baton Rouge at this late day will preclude its opening at all this session...." Later that year, Louisiana A&M did merge with the white Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, and on Oct. 5, began their first joint session. It is today one of America's prominent universities under the combined name LSU-A&M. An important item. Very fine.
