Langworthy, F.; Scenery of the Plains, Mountains and Mines, or a Diary kept on the Overland Route to California...; 1855, Sprague, Ogdensburg. 324pp, no index. No illustrations. Kurutz 392. Langworthy left Illinois for California in April, 1850. He followed the California Trail, arriving at the Humboldt sink on October 2, according to Kurutz. He crossed the Sierra via Carson Pass, arriving in Sacramento on October 27, 1850. Excellent narrative of the trip, which was fairly quick and uneventful. Much on Indians. Discussion of the Nevada section is pretty good, including Ragtown. Met gold miners at the lower end of Carson Valley prospecting. Incident at Mormon Station (Genoa). This is a "must-have" for the researcher, as the descriptions are all good and unique.City: County: State: Date:
